I tell jokes. Sometimes.

Hi.

My name's Benari. I'm a comic.

Why haven't I posted more videos of me doing comedy? Especially in this technological age of wizardry...?

Great question.

Mainly, I'm lazy. And I'm really not good at this whole "promoting myself" thing. And I don't tape a lot of my shows. And when I do, I don't do anything with the tapes except maybe eventually misplace them.

And then sob quietly for my lost youth.

So I'm trying to change that and I hope to be posting assorted clips from various shows on a fairly regular basis. And by "fairly regular basis," I mean I will post a video now. And then, eventually, maybe I will post another video again. Some day. Maybe.

The following bit was filmed in front of a live studio audience in August at The D-Lounge in New York City on the very awesome Sweet Paprika show.

For continuity geeks out there, I first posted about this very subject waaaaay back in February. And that, folks, is how a premise becomes a joke.

"Congratulations! You made it. You're a hack!"

"Oh, yeah!"

If you're still reading this AND you're in the NYC area this Friday, you should swing by the star-studded comedy bonanza that is Sweet Paprika, where I will be telling some more jokes. See how I promoted the show there? That's called...something something. Or something. Again, I'm not very good at this. But come to the show on Friday.

That is all.

NY POST-er boy

Don't mean to brag, but I just happen to be quoted AGAIN in the NY Post. I'm becoming something of a subject matter expert 'round these parts, no?

No, probably not. But still.

Pick up a copy of the NY Post. Turn to pages 77-78.

Enjoy the hilarity of true stories of NYC catcalls.

Here's my li'l contribution. It's one of the reasons I love the NYC subways.

* And That's Just What They'll Tell Their Grandchildren, Too

A crowded F train pulls into the West Fourth Street stop, and a very attractive woman in a business suit steps in. Immediately, she catches the attention of a young gentleman who looks like Snoop Dogg and sounds like Busta. He cries out, "Damn, your booty fine!" and then proceeds to expound upon this thought, unleashing a veritable tidal wave of nonstop street poetry, describing every last detail of how fine her body was and just what he would do to it, given the chance. For five stops. Finally, at York Street, she casually rises, puts a finger to his lips and hushes him, slips her number into his hand and remarks, "You had me at, 'Damn, your booty fine.'" And with that, she disappears into the cool, Brooklyn night air. I like to think they're married now.

- Benari Poulten, 29, Manhattan

Thanks again, Mandy!

"Get Some."

Have you seen NYC's latest public safety campaign?

MTA-themed condoms.

"New York, we've got you covered."

Considering the reliability of the MTA, not sure I'd trust these condoms.

They'd most likely break at the most inconvenient times or you'd have to wait an hour before you could use 'em. Due to "track work."

Don't even want to think about what would happen when your "A" starts running as an "F"...

"You can change your life..."

Perhaps you've seen the ads plastered all over the NYC subway cars:

"You can change your life by altering your thoughts."
-Eric Butterworth

Not gonna lie, first time I saw the ads, it freaked me out a bit. All I could think was:

"OH, DEAR LORD! THEY'RE TRYING TO ALTER OUR THOUGHTS!!!"

Probably not the intended reaction.

Then I find out it's some Unity Church thing.

Whew. No one's altering our thoughts.

Yet.

Eric Butterworth, eh?

Until now, I've only ever been familiar with the works of MRS. Butterworth. Didn't even realize there was a MR. Butterworth. But of course, she is a Mrs., only stands to reason there'd be a Mister...
